HEALTH & SAFETY

Safety is a core value that guides our daily decisions in order to build a safe environment in our operations. At GPIL, Health and Safety are subjects of great importance. Hence, it is one of our values, and we have adopted a policy in which people’s lives and well-being take priority over all other objectives.

To ensure a safe and healthy workplace for the wellbeing of its employees, GPIL ensures that all its facilities are continually ahead of national legislation and benchmarked to the best international standards and practices in terms of design and infrastructure. All areas also have action plans to develop and foster a culture of responsibility and safety.

At GPIL, employees’ Health and Safety are everyone’s responsibility. While the Company invests in equipment, resources, training and development of standards, employees must follow all the laws, policies, practices and procedures related to Health and Safety.

With its employees' safety in mind, GPIL has established guidelines for performing critical activities, in order to avoid people, facilities and equipment losses. Critical activities included in these guidelines are:

Building Safety Awareness at all levels of the Organisation

With safety metrics linked to the performance of key leaders, there is every effort made that Leaders Walk the Talk on Safe Practices. Daily, weekly and monthly assessments; cross-functional and other audits, ensure that procedures set are followed. GPIL encourages its employees to record near misses and first aid incidents as they could potentially highlight new risk areas that can be taken care of before an accident happens.

Contractors’ Safety

In the aspect of safety, there is no difference between our own employee and that of a contractor. Competencies and safety awareness are assessed at the time of engaging contractors and constantly reinforced daily, prior to and during work. Also, once a month, an award is given to the best team.

Logistics

GPIL works with all road and rail contractors including drivers to ensure safety during transportation, loading and unloading of goods. We also collaborate with local police to conduct road-safety campaigns.
